Notice is hereby given that pursuant to the provisions of section 73 of the Species at Risk Act permit no. MAR-SA-2008P-010 is issued.
Activity necessary or beneficial to the species
The purpose of this work is to disentangle large whales, including the North Atlantic Right Whale, in the waters of the Bay of Fundy, as part of the Atlantic Large Whale Disentanglement Network. Close approaches to entangled right whales are required, to cut ropes or netting wrapped around the animals. This level of approach is the only way to remove life-threatening entanglements.

a) Disentanglement activities follow the protocols of the Atlantic Large Whale Disentanglement Network. Disentanglement is only attempted on whales with life-threatening entanglements. b) Disentanglement is intended to result in a positive impact (i.e., by saving the whales’ life). The side-effect of disentanglement are minimized by following the protocols of the Atlantic Large Whale Disentanglement Network. c) The work is not expected to jeopardize the survival or recovery of either listed species. Disentanglement is intended to aid in the recovery of the species.
