Notice of permit

Regional or Local Number: SECT 08 SCI 032

Notice is hereby given that pursuant to the provisions of section 73 of the Species at Risk Act permit no. SECT 08 SCI 032 is issued.

Purpose:
Activity necessary or beneficial to the species

Description:
This permit authorizes the applicant to carry out a fish survey in the St. Lawrence River in the area of a construction project to access the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine bridge-tunnel.

Start Date: 2008-05-23   End Date: 2008-12-31

Issuing Authority: Department of Fisheries and Oceans

Authority Used:

  • Species at Risk Act

Location of Activity (province, territory or ocean):

  • Quebec

Affected Species:

Pre-Conditions:
a) The selected collection methods have minimal impact on fish or fish habitat. 3 experimental nets will be fished for periods of 4 hours maximum over 2 nights. The seine nets will capture a representative sample of small fish present. The restrictions will prevent the mortality of any copper redhorse or river redhorse potentially present. b) The effect of research activities on fish and fish habitat is minimized by use of approved research methodologies. Any fish captured will be identified, counted, measured and released at point of capture. Furthermore, Copper redhorse that have been radio-tagged may be in the area. If captured, they will be handled with the necessary care and returned to the water. c) The research is not expected to jeopardize the survival or recovery of the species. There is minimal chance of capturing a Copper redhorse and the time to be fished further reduces the likelihood.
