Notice is hereby given that pursuant to the provisions of section 73 of the Species at Risk Act permit no. MPO-LEP-QC-17-012 is issued.
Scientific research for the conservation of the species
The activity authorized by this permit is a survey of the eastern sand darter and channel darter bycatch in the Rivière Saint-Maurice using seines. The survey is designed to assess the presence of the eastern sand darter upstream from its known range in this waterway. Channel darter bycatch is a possibility during this survey. The project is not expected to cause mortality or alter habitat.

a) Alternatives: The best method has been chosen to conduct these surveys. The chosen catch method minimizes the risk of injury and mortality. The method does not affect habitat. b) All possible measures were taken to minimize any negative effects of this activity on the eastern sand darter and the channel darter. Caught fish will be released at the catch site as soon as possible, and in the best possible conditions for fish survival, after identification and collection of morphometric data. c) The activity will not jeopardize the survival or recovery of the species. This activity is not expected to result in eastern sand darter or channel darter mortality . This type of fishing has no impact on these species' habitats.
