Notice is hereby given that pursuant to the provisions of section 73 of the Species at Risk Act permit no. SARA-QR-2008-0101 is issued.

Activity necessary or beneficial to the species

Plantation in 2008 of a total of 12 Butternut tree, size 100-150 cm from a healthy source in the Gatineau Park (Chemin Cowden), province of Quebec in the context of a compensation agreement between the Quebec Ministry of Transportation and Transport Canada.

Affected Species:

The plantation of 12 healthy Butternut tree in a protected area will benefit the species. The activity is conducted by qualified persons. All necessary measures are taken to prevent dispersion of the canker illness. Trees are from a healthy source (Quebec Ministry of Natural resources), trees will be examined and selected by an expert of the butternut canker and planting tolls will be desinfected. The activity is eligible for a SARA permit. Alternatives and feasible measures were considered and the best solution was adopted to avoid and minimize the impact of the activity on the species, its residence and habitat. The activity will not jeopardize the survival of the species and will contribute to its protection and recovery.
