Notice of permit

Regional or Local Number: SC4011

Notice is hereby given that pursuant to the provisions of section 74 of the Species at Risk Act permit no. SC4011 is issued.

Scientific research for the conservation of the species

Insert small temperature loggers in nests to estimate nest activity.

Start Date: 2017-06-09   End Date: 2017-08-15

Issuing Authority: Environment Canada

Authority Used:

  • Migratory Bird Convention Act

Location of Activity (province, territory or ocean):

  • New Brunswick

Affected Species:

A. Reasonable alternatives to the activity that would reduce the impact on species have been considered and the best solution has been adopted. Methods cause the least amount of disturbance to determine nest activity. B. Feasible measures will be taken to minimize the impact of activity on species or critical habitat or residence. Risk of disturbance to the nest will be minimized by limiting visits to the nests. The technology is small and inconspicuous and designed to be the least disturbing to the nest and family unit. C. Activity will not jeopardize the survival or recovery of the species. This activity will not jeopardize the survival of the species as a whole because sample sizes are low, all measures are being taken to reduce stress levels, and reduce any impact to habitat. These activities will help with our understanding of subspecies structure in the population.
